Description

The Allegheny East Conference is seeking an Associate Director of Youth & Children's Ministries to assist the Youth & Children’s Ministries Director in the planning, supervision, and implementation of well-rounded, high quality and innovative youth, young adult, camp, and child development programs. This position is responsible for directing the administrative activities of the department in accordance with denominational policy and objectives.

Summary of Key Job Duties

  • Assists the Youth & Children’s Ministries Director in the planning, development, implementation, promoting, and evaluation of all Young Adult, Youth and Children’s Ministries programming, and ministers to youth on various campuses.
  • Promotes, supervises, plans and coordinates the Annual Summer Youth Camp; develops outreach programs to recruit children and youth from the community to enroll in the summer youth camp.
  • Recruits and assists in the selection of staff for Summer Youth Camp; works in conjunction with Youth & Children’s Ministries Director to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and Conference policies for staff to work at youth summer camp.
  • Conducts research in the area of child development, issues affecting children and youth, and best practices and strategies for reaching and ministering to children, youth and young adults; makes recommendations regarding developing and utilizing resources, programming and training.
  • Assist in planning and managing workshops & training programs to assist leaders in developing children and youth leadership skills.
  • Assist in developing and coordinating youth & children’s resources & materials for leaders.
  • Travels throughout the conference territory and other areas for youth and children’s activities, events, and training.
  • Assist in preparing department’s budget, calendar, goals and objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Youth Director.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of child development and spiritual development of children and youth
  • Knowledge of and adhere to the beliefs and tenets of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
  • Ability to clearly articulate theological concepts to children and youth, their families, and church children’s and youth ministry leaders
  • Ability to train children’s and youth ministry leaders
  • Aptitude and skill in technology/social media
  • Ability to relate and connect with children and youth with energy and enthusiasm
  • Ability to teach and lead children and youth
  • Ability to train and supervise staff engaged in youth ministry programs, especially summer camp staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with children, youth, their families, church children and youth ministries leaders and the community.
  • Must be organized with strong attention to detail
  • Must have good judgment and decision-making skills

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in regular standing.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in child development, child psychology, sociology, social work or a related field. Master’s degree in children’s or youth and young adult ministry preferred.
  • Responsible experience in developing and implementing church children’s/youth ministry programs.
  • Must have a passion for children and youth and understand how to communicate and relate across generations.
  • Must complete required child abuse and sexual harassment training, pass all required background clearances and keep them current.
